Seatbelt Offences in Ontario
Under Ontario's Highway Traffic Act and Regulation 613, all drivers and passengers must wear a properly adjusted and securely fastened seatbelt.
Convictions for seatbelt violations stay on your driving record for three years and may result in demerit points, fines, and increased insurance premiums.
Penalties for Seatbelt Infractions
- Set Fine: $200.00
- Demerit Points: 2 points (for most violations)
- Record Impact: 3-year conviction history
- Exceptions: Some violations carry no points (e.g., inoperative seatbelt, passenger without belt)
